We have this white Moroccan wedding footstool (handira) handmade by our artisans in Marrakech, making this blanket truly unique. It is woven from cotton and is possibly the softest wedding blanket we have ever seen. The footboard is adorned with alternating rows of gray fringe and small metal discs that have been hand-sewn onto the blanket.

Handira blankets, also known as wedding blankets, are a beauty of Moroccan craftsmanship, unique pieces that were used in weddings by Berber brides from the High Atlas and that gradually became incorporated and became an object of desire in the world of decoration, fitting perfectly into a variety of styles.

Our white Handira footwear was hand-woven, the Handiras are a window to the Berber culture. The Handiras were made dozens of years ago by Berber women. The bride on her wedding day wore a handira tied around her neck as a cape, as a symbol of happiness and good fortune. Weeks before the ceremony, the women of the bride’s family sew the blanket, while they reveal to the future wife all the secrets of the marriage. Its preparation is quite a ritual, the women took several days, even weeks of work, joining hundreds of sequins to attract happiness and fertility to the marriage.
